When you became a believer in Jesus Christ you became a new person. You changed. You are no longer what you used to be.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come. (2 Cor 5:17)
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. (Rom 6:4 – ESV)
Here are some ways God has changed you already.
You have a new spirit and mind:
- You have a new spirit because of God’s Spirit (Jn 3:3-8; Rom 6:11, 63; Rom 8:9)
- You have a renewed mind (1 Cor 2:16)
- You are now truly alive, passed from death to life (Jn 5:24)
- You have God’s Word living in you (Jn 5:38)
You have new beliefs:
- You now truly believe in God the Father (Jn 12:44)
- You believe that Jesus is the Savior (1 Jn 5:1; 1 Pe 1:8, 21)
- You believe in salvation through Christ alone (Gal 2:15-16; Ac 15:11)
- You believe in the power of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross (1 Cor 1:18)
- Your faith and hope are now in God (1 Pe 1:18-21)
- You believe God is working for your good even when things are hard (Rom 8:28; Jms 1:2-4)
You have new feelings and desires:
- You now love God (1 Pe 1:8-9)
- You now love God’s Word (Rom 7:22; Ps 119:128)
- You now hate your sin and desire to do good (Rom 7:14-23)
- You now love others, especially believers (1 Jn 3:14-15; 1 Jn 4:7-8)
Think about it:
How else have your beliefs changed? What about these areas?
- How to be saved?
- About God, His personality, mercy, love, acts, and involvement in your life?
- About sin and its penalty? Confession and repentance?
- About your beliefs in prayer? Trials in life?
- About your beliefs regarding mankind, where the world is heading?
- Do you now believe there is a truth? Do you believe the devil is a liar?
- What else do you believe differently about?
How have your feelings and desires changed regarding:
- spiritual things
- the world
- your life direction
- the definition of success
- yourself
- other people
Praise, thank, and appreciate God for changing you.
