God may discipline you for your sin. If it is a minor slip out of the blue, He might just convict you. If it is a perpetual and intentional sin, He may discipline you much more firmly. Regardless of the method or intensity of His discipline, He is doing it because He loves you as His child (Pv 13:24) to turn you from your sin:
Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. (Rev 3:19)
God’s discipline is part of His training program, and it can be uncomfortable:
My son, do not take the Lord’s discipline lightly or faint when you are reproved by Him, 6 for the Lord disciplines the one He loves and punishes every son He receives. 7 Endure suffering as discipline: God is dealing with you as sons. For what son is there that a father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline—which all receive—then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we had natural fathers discipline us, and we respected them. Shouldn’t we submit even more to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time based on what seemed good to them, but He does it for our benefit, so that we can share His holiness. 11 No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields the fruit of peace and righteousness to those who have been trained by it. (Heb 12:5-11)
Just like a teacher scolding you in class for misbehaving, God will call you out for your bad behavior. He doesn’t do it to be mean or demeaning but out of love to teach you. He may convict you with His Holy Spirit, He may call you out through another believer, He may convict you with His Word. Just like a teacher, coach, or parent will correct you for doing something wrong, you can expect your loving Father to correct you when you mess up or could do better in His eyes.
Rejoice in God’s correction because it shows He cares for you enough to correct you:
11 My son, do not reject the discipline of the Lord Or loathe His rebuke, 12 For whom the Lord loves He disciplines, Just as a father disciplines the son in whom he delights. (Pv 3:11-12 – NASB)
Rejoice in God’s correction because it is trying to teach you:
Anyone who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever listens to correction acquires good sense. (Pv 15:32)
12 Lord, happy is the man You discipline and teach from Your law 13 to give him relief from troubled times until a pit is dug for the wicked. (Ps 94:12-13)
Embrace God’s correction:
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but one who hates correction is stupid. (Pv 12:1)
See how happy the man is God corrects; so do not reject the discipline of the Almighty. (Job 5:17)
