There were many testimonies about Jesus and His character:
31 “If I testify about Myself, My testimony is not valid. 32 There is Another who testifies about Me, and I know that the testimony He gives about Me is valid. 33 You have sent messengers to John, and he has testified to the truth … 36 But I have a greater testimony than John’s because of the works that the Father has given Me to accomplish. These very works I am doing testify about Me that the Father has sent Me. 37 The Father who sent Me has Himself testified about Me … 39 You pore over the Scriptures because you think you have eternal life in them, yet they testify about Me. (Jn 5:31-39)
As you saw The Father (v32, 37), John the Baptist (v33), the works Jesus did (v36), and the Scriptures (v39) all testify about Jesus. What do you think they say about Him?
They testify that Jesus is the Savior, God’s Son, God, holy, loving, merciful, just … etc. In a nutshell, they testify to who Jesus is and about His character.
People and your behaviors testify about you too. People can testify to what type of person you are based on how you live, speak, and act. Your behaviors testify about your heart, attitude, faith, character, patience, love, kindness, etc.
Examine yourself:
What kind of testimony about you do your behaviors tell? Are they good or bad testimonies?
What kind of testimony would the people closest to you give about you (good or bad)?
What about people that don’t know you as well, what is their testimony about you?
How would strangers you meet testify about you?
Think about who/what gave testimony about Jesus in the passage above and ask what testimony you would receive from them:
- The Father (v32, 37) – what do you think His testimony is about you?
- John the Baptist (v33) – how do you think godly people would testify about you?
- Your works (v36) – what do your works testify about you?
- The Scriptures (v39) – would the Scriptures testify that you follow them?
What and who testifies about you and your character … is the testimony a good one or not?
Joseph of Cypriot in the book of Acts had a great nickname among the Apostles that was a result of his character. That name might not mean anything to you since you mostly know him by his nickname Barnabas:
36 Joseph, a Levite and a Cypriot by birth, the one the apostles called Barnabas, which is translated Son of Encouragement … (Ac 4:36)
Live a godly Christian life so you have many great testimonies about you. Who knows, you might even earn a great nickname too.
