You are of tremendous value to God.

The Priceless Treasure and Pearl

44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure, buried in a field, that a man found and reburied. Then in his joy he goes and sells everything he has and buys that field. 45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. 46 When he found one priceless pearl, he went and sold everything he had, and bought it. (Mt 13:44-45)

You are the great treasure and priceless pearl that God found.

Some misinterpret this passage by thinking we are the ones giving up everything to find God. But that interpretation misses a key point—the treasure and the pearl are purchased. We can’t buy God or salvation. The correct way to read this is that God is the one who sells everything (gives His all) to purchase you. He literally bought you with His own blood (Rev 5:9b; 1 Cor 6:19-20).

You’re More Valuable to Him Than Animals

To drive the point home, Jesus compares your worth to the animal kingdom:

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Mt 10:29-31)

If God cares about every single sparrow, imagine how much more He values you, His child! He pays attention to every detail of your life—even numbering the hairs on your head.

You’re More Valuable to Him Than Non-believers

Your value is so high that God considers you more valuable than non-believers, because you are His children:

Because you are precious in My sight and honored, and I love you,
I will give people in exchange for you and nations instead of your life. (Isa 43:4)

That’s a powerful statement of worth!

You Were Worth the Ultimate Purchase Price: Jesus

The highest proof of your value is the price God was willing to pay. He didn’t use money; He used Himself.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (Jn 3:16 ESV)

You are not your own, 20 for you were bought at a price. (1 Cor 6:19-20)

for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. (Rev 5:9b – NASB 1995)

God the Father purchased you by giving His Son, and Jesus the Son purchased you by facing the Father’s full wrath and dying a brutal death and bearing God’s full wrath. He paid the price of His life to purchase you.

He did this because He considered you to be extremely valuable—His treasured and priceless pearl. Never forget your worth in God’s eyes.

Summary

  • You are so valuable to the Father that He sacrificed His Son for you
  • You are so valuable to Jesus that He faced God’s full wrath and died for you
  • You are more valuable to Him than animals
  • You are more valuable to Him than non-believers since you are His child

Think about it

Do you understand how valuable you are to God?

Do you understand that the Father giving up Jesus for you, and Jesus giving up His life for you, SHOW you how valuable you are to God?

Do you ever feel devalued by yourself or others? How can you use God’s view of your worth to fight those feelings?

Know that you are infinitely valued by God no matter whether you feel valued or not. Do not listen to the devil, your emotions, or other people who minimize your value to God.

What is one practical way you can remember how valuable you are to God every day?
