Sometimes life gets very hard and we feel defeated, exhausted, depressed, and hopeless. Think about the promises of God to fill yourself with hope.
147 I rise before dawn and cry out for help; I put my hope in Your word. 148 I am awake through each watch of the night to meditate on Your promise. (Ps 119:147-148)
How does thinking of God’s promises help? It’s simple. First, you know that God keeps His promises … so, when you read His promises, you know they will come true. Second, you know God’s promises to His children are amazing and wonderful. When you combine the fact that His promises to you for the future are amazing and that He WILL fulfill them, you can’t help being encouraged and filled with hope.
Think of God’s promises. I’ve listed some below. Read through them slowly and let it sink in that these are promises from God to you as a believer in Christ.
Promises about your life on earth:
God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. (1 Cor 10:13 – ESV)
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (Php 4:19)
And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Mt 28:20)
We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose. (Rom 8:28)
38 For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, 39 height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord! (Rom 8:38-39)
27 My sheep hear My voice, I know them, and they follow Me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish—ever! No one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. (Jn 10:27-29)
Wow what promises! God is more active in your life than you understand. He supplies all your needs, is with you always so you are never alone, works things out to the good for His people, controls the devil so he doesn’t tempt you beyond what you can resist, and always ensures you are His (saved), and guarantees that He will always love you. Those are promises you can hold on to now.
Promises about your future in eternity:
2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if not, I would have told you. I am going away to prepare a place for you. 3 If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also. (Jn 14:2-3)
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me, even if he dies, will live. 26 Everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die—ever. Do you believe this?” (Jn 11:25-26)
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will no longer exist; grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer, because the previous things have passed away. (Rev 21:4)
Then I heard a loud voice from the throne: Look! God’s dwelling is with humanity,
and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them
and be their God. (Rev 21:3)
43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom. (Mt 13:43)
in a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound,
and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed. 53 For this corruptible must be clothed with incorruptibility, and this mortal must be clothed with immortality.
54 When this corruptible is clothed with incorruptibility, and this mortal is clothed
with immortality, then the saying that is written will take place: Death has been swallowed up in victory. (1 Cor 15:52-54)
42 So it is with the resurrection of the dead: Sown in corruption, raised in incorruption;
43 sown in dishonor, raised in glory; sown in weakness, raised in power; 44 sown a natural body, raised a spiritual body. (1 Cor 15:42-44)
20 but our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. 21 He will transform the body of our humble condition into the likeness of His glorious body … (Php 3:20-21)
There is so much to look forward to once we are in Heaven. You will be with God, your will be comforted, you will live forever, you will shine like the sun and have a glorious and incorruptible body. As our bodies fail and we struggle with sin, we should be leaping for joy that we will have new, perfect, and incorruptible bodies.
Take your thoughts off this world and your problems and place them onto God’s promises. Let them comfort, encourage, bring joy, and give you hope for the future.
How did thinking about God’s promises make you feel?
Do you think God will ever break His promises?
God is not a man who lies, or a son of man who changes His mind. Does He speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill? (Num 23:19)
Think of God’s promises regularly for hope, comfort, peace, encouragement, and peace.
