Another common mistake of God’s people is to allow busyness to interfere with our relationship with God. Look at Martha (Lazarus’s brother) for example. She had a situation in life that you might dream about … she had the Lord Jesus in her living room willing to spend time talking with her! Unfortunately, she was too busy to sit and enjoy being in His company:

38 While they were traveling, He entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s feet and was listening to what He said. 40 But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, “Lord, don’t You care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand.” 41 The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Lk 10:38-42)

Think about the blessings Martha robbed herself of because she was too busy to sit in Jesus’ company like her sister. She would have learned, been comforted, encouraged, and just soaked up the Lord’s presence. Imagine the joy she would have had. Don’t rob yourself of blessings like her by being too busy for God.

Many believers do not have enough time to pray or read their Bible’s every day because they are too busy! That lack of contact with God is damaging their relationship with Him. Is that you? Are you too busy to spend time with God?

Guard your relationship with Jesus. Make sure it is not being pushed aside by anything – including Christian works. Walk with Him in a close relationship:

Enoch walked with God … (Gen 5:24)

… Noah walked with God (Gen 6:9)

Daniel met with God three times a day (Dan 6:10)! Open time in your schedule at least once a day to spend some quality and quiet time with God … sit in His presence meditating on Him, read the Bible, and pray. Take a few minutes out around lunch to sit in His presence and think about Him, His works, or His Word.

Do not allow yourself to be too busy to sit quietly in God’s company. If He was in your living room, would you stop what you were doing to be with Him? Well, He is right now. Go pick up your Bible and listen to what He has to say and pray to talk with Him.

Stop striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted on the earth. (Ps 46:10)

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. (Ex 20:8-10)

27 And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man …” (Mk 2:27)

Take time out regularly to stop being too busy and seek the Lord.

Think about it

Do you spend quality time with Him every day or are you too distracted by the things of life and this world to sit at His feet and enjoy Him?

Is doing laundry, watching TV, vacuuming, or anything else you do more important than spending time with God?

What’s so important in your life that you can’t spend time with Him daily?

Would you enjoy your relationship with your spouse if you were too busy every day to spend time with them? Would you be getting the most out of your relationship?

How many days per week do you take time out to be with God and enjoy His company?

Are you too busy to spend time with God?

Will you carve out time every day to sit in God’s presence and enjoy Him?
