The world has billions of people in it and most will be condemned to live eternity in hell apart from God (Mt 7:13-14). Only a small number will live with God forever in paradise. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ alone as your Savior, you are one of the few that will enjoy His presence forever.

This great honor is not because of you seeking God, being so good, or a decision you made (Rom 3:10-11). The reason you are saved and will be with God forever is because of what He did for you. Now, I’m not talking about the crucifixion of Christ. Yes, that was God’s way of paying for sins, but it was done long before you were born. What I’m talking about is how you came to be a saved child of God through faith in Jesus. This process had nothing to do with you. It was all the Almighty.

It was God the Father that drew you to Jesus in the first place:

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up on the last day. (Jn 6:44)

In your flesh you had no desire for Christ. You did not seek Him or God (Rom 3:11; Ps 14:2-3). The only reason you came to Christ was because the Father drew you to Him. He granted to you the desire and ability to come to Christ.

He said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless it is granted to him by the Father.” (Jn 6:65)

Without the Father drawing you, you would never have shown any interest in Christ or salvation through Him.

God didn’t stop there. He didn’t just draw you to Christ. Even sitting at Christ’s feet doesn’t save you unless there is an understanding and acceptance of Him inside. Being drawn to Jesus doesn’t show you your need for a Savior or show you that He is God’s Son and the only way to salvation. For example, the Pharisees knew Him and talked to Him but didn’t understand or accept Him as Savior. More was needed than just being drawn to Jesus to be saved and God took care of that too. After drawing you to Jesus, the Father revealed Jesus to you as the Savior:

15 “But you,” He asked them, “who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!” 17 And Jesus responded, “Simon son of Jonah, you are blessed because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father in heaven. (Mt 16:15-17)

25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned and revealed them to infants. (Mt 11:25)

Peter believed when the Father revealed to him that Jesus was the Messiah and the Son of God. Out of the Father’s great love, mercy, grace, and kindness, He drew Peter to Christ and revealed Christ to him. He’s done the same for you. You see, what makes you different than the billions of people in the world that are going to hell is the fact that God decided to draw you to Jesus and then reveal the truth about Him to you.

That thought should humble your heart, confuse your mind (why me?), and get you on your knees in thanks and appreciation.

Without the Father drawing you to Jesus and revealing Him to you, you would have remained one of those people that never looked for God and been condemned. You would never have understood your need for salvation, never understood that Jesus is God’s Son, the Savior, and the only way to salvation. You would have remained in your unsaved state of not seeking God or understanding:

There is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. (Rom 3:11)

Appreciate God for what He’s done for you. Praise and thank Him now for what He’s done for you.

Think about it

Do you understand that God didn’t choose you because you deserve it?

Do you understand that you didn’t choose Him?

How does it make you feel knowing that it is only because of the Father drawing you to Christ and revealing Him to you that you are saved?

How does it make you feel knowing that He only does this for a small percentage of the people alive and you are one of them?
