God loves you infinitely. Let that sink in for a minute. God loves you infinitely. Let’s talk about it.
The Amount God’s Love for You
I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love, 19 and to know the Messiah’s love that surpasses knowledge, so you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Eph 3:17-19)
This passage shows clearly that you can’t comprehend the measure of God’s love for you on your own. The height, depth, and width of it is something you can’t understand. God’s love for you is immense. But also notice that this verse adds a fourth dimension to the measure of God’s love: length. Size in measured in three dimensions-width, height, and depth. The “length” of God’s love refers to time. So, this passage is saying that God’s love for you is larger than you can understand and lasts forever.
Scripture does not stop there to show you God’s love for you.
The Strength of God’s Love for You
So, God loves you more than you can imagine and that love lasts forever but how strong is that love? Does He love you a little or a lot?
35 Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or anguish or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? … 38 For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, 39 height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord! (Rom 8:35, 38-39)
The strength of God’s love for you is so powerful that nothing can separate you from it. Nothing. That even includes yourself and your ongoing struggles with sin. His love is for you is unbreakable.
Evidence of God’s Love for You
The Father and Jesus love you infinitely and they proved it through their actions.
Try to imagine the love God the Father has for His Son Jesus. It’s impossible to comprehend isn’t it! Knowing how much the Father loves Jesus, look at this verse:
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (Jn 3:16)
The Father proved His infinite love for you by sacrificing His Son for you! He knew how Jesus would suffer – people mocking, called the devil, tortured, satanic attacks, and ultimately to take the Father’s full wrath – but He was willing to send Him anyway. Why? Because He loved you that much and knew you were helpless. Can you imagine sacrificing your child like that for your enemies? That’s what God did for you. That had to be hard on the Father to do but He did it out of love for you. The Father loves you infinitely.
Jesus proved His love for you by coming and dying for you:
8 But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us! … while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son … (Rom 5:8, 10)
Jesus knew how bad the crucifixion was going to be by what we see in Gethsemane the night before it happened:
36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and He told the disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 Taking along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, “My soul is swallowed up in sorrow —to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with Me.” 39 Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.” (Matthew 26:36-39)
Jesus could have stopped His suffering at any time but didn’t:
52 Then Jesus told him, “Put your sword back in its place because all who take up a sword will perish by a sword. 53 Or do you think that I cannot call on My Father, and He will provide Me at once with more than 12 legions of angels? (Mt 26:52-53)
Jesus willingly went through with the crucifixion for you because He loves infinitely.
The Unimaginable Comparison
I suppose the verse that best describes God’s love for you is this mind blowing statement from Jesus:
Jesus answered … As the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you. (Jn 15:9)
Read that slowly again. Jesus loves you as the Father loves Him! Try to imagine the perfect, glorious, and infinite love the Father has for Jesus and realize that’s how much Jesus loves you.
God loves you infinitely and forever and proved it by what He did.
Think about it
Take time out now to really think about how much God loves you.
How did the Father prove His love for you?
How did Jesus prove His love for you?
How much do you think God the Father loves God the Son? Now think about how Jesus said that is how He loves you. How does that make you feel?
Never forget God’s infinite and eternal love for you. Pick out a verse or two to remember when you need assurance of God’s love.
What is your response to God because of His great love for you? Go ahead and express it now.
