The epistles have a lot of Theology in them so whenever you read them, keep an eye out for what you might learn about God. Here’s some things we learn about God in 1 Peter.

About Jesus:

Jesus is the Son of God (1 Pe 1:3); He was and is sin free (1 Pe 2:22); He was rejected by people but is precious to God the Father (1 Pe 2:4); He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit (1 Pe 3:18); He is resurrected (1 Pe 1:3; 3:21); He is in Heaven at God’s right hand with angels, powers, and authorities subject to Him (1 Pe 3:22); He will be revealed to all (1 Pe 1:13); His glory will be revealed (1 Pe 4:13); and He spoke through the prophets (1 Pe 1:11). There are many witnesses to Jesus’ identity – the Apostles saw His majesty (2 Pe 1:16-17), the Father testified that He was His Son (2 Pe 1:17-18), and the Old Testament prophets spoke of Him (2 Pe 2:19-20).

About Jesus’ work for you:

Jesus suffered for you (1 Pe 2:21); He suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God (1 Pe 3:18); He bore your sin on the cross (1 Pe 2:24); and He is the Shepherd and Overseer of your soul (1 Pe 2:25).

About the Father:

God judges peoples work (1 Pe 1:17); God chooses people and they are set apart by the Spirit (1 Pe 1:2); God redeemed you from what you used to be through Jesus’ blood (1 Pe 1:18); dominion and glory belong to Him (1 Pe 5:11); and He is gracious (1 Pe 5:10).

Think about it

Did you learn anything new?

Did you ever think about the different witnesses of Jesus’ identity before?

What does Jesus being the Shepherd and Overseer of your soul (1 Pe 2:25) mean to you?

In what ways do you think God set you apart (1 Pe 1:2)?

What were you before that God redeemed you from (1 Pe 1:18)? Take a look at 1 Cor 6:9-11) for some ideas.
